An Act to consolidate enactments relating to the safety, health, and welfare of employed persons in factories; and to regulate industrial machinery.

Part IHealth and General Provisions
1 Cleanliness and Overcrowding
(1)Every factory shall be kept in a clean state and free from effluvia arising from any drain, privy, or nuisance.
(2)A factory shall not be overcrowded, and there shall be allowed for every person employed in any workroom not less than four hundred cubic feet of space.
2 Working Temperature
In every workroom in which a substantial proportion of the work is done sitting, a reasonable temperature shall be maintained which shall not be less than sixty degrees Fahrenheit after the first hour.
Part IISafety Provisions
3 Fencing of Machinery
(1)Every flywheel directly connected to any prime mover, and every moving part of any prime mover, shall be securely fenced.
(2)All dangerous parts of transmission machinery shall be securely fenced unless they are in such position as to be safe to every person employed.
4 Penalties for Non-Compliance
The occupier of any factory where safety provisions are contravened shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £20.
