Part ILocal Authorities

1 Constitution of Commissioners

The municipal affairs of towns, villages, and parish districts shall be administered by commissioners elected by the registered ratepayers thereof:

(a)the Corporation of Douglas;

(b)the Town Commissioners of Ramsey, Peel, and Castletown;

(c)the Parish Commissioners for rural districts.

2 Rate Levying Powers

(1)Local authorities may levy town and district rates upon the net annual valuation of all rateable property.

(2)All rates levied shall be expressed in shillings and pence in the pound of rateable valuation.

Part IIPublic Health and Nuisances

3 Abatement of Nuisances

Where any local authority is satisfied of the existence of a statutory nuisance arising from insalubrious drainage, foul ditches, or offensive accumulations, they shall serve an abatement notice; and failure to comply shall incur a fine not exceeding £5.

4 Citation

This Act may be cited as the Isle of Man Local Government Act.
