Part IDriving Licences and Third-Party Risks
1 Driving Licences
(1)No person shall drive a motor vehicle on any public road in the Island unless he holds a driving licence granted by the Highway and Transport Board.
(2)The annual licence fee shall be five shillings (5s.).
(3)Any person who drives a motor vehicle on a road in contravention of subsection (1) of this section shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £20, and the court may order him to be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence.
2 Compulsory Third-Party Insurance
(1)It shall not be lawful for any person to use a motor vehicle on a public road unless there is in force an approved insurance policy against third-party risks.
(2)Any person who acts in contravention of this section shall be liable to a fine not exceeding £50 or to imprisonment for not more than three months.
Part IIDangerous and Careless Driving
3 Careless Driving
If any person drives a motor vehicle on a road without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other road users, he shall be liable to a fine not exceeding £20.

This Act may be cited as the Isle of Man Road Traffic Act.
