Part ICruelty and Neglect

1 Offences of Cruelty

(1)Any person who ill-treats, cruelly works, or exposes to unnecessary suffering any horse, sheep, beast, or domestic dog shall be guilty of an offence.

(2)An offender under this section shall be liable on summary conviction before the High Bailiff to a fine not exceeding £20 or to imprisonment for not more than two months.

2 Failure to Feed Impounded Animals

Any person who impounds or confines any stray animal in a parish pinfold shall provide sufficient daily food and water, and the reasonable cost thereof may be recovered from the owner.

Part IIDestruction of Injured Beasts

3 Power of Constables to Order Destruction

If any constable finds any horse, cow, or sheep so severely injured that to keep it alive is cruel, he may, upon the certificate of a veterinary surgeon, cause the animal to be humanely slaughtered without the consent of the owner.

4 Citation

This Act may be cited as the Isle of Man Protection of Animals Act.
